British airline easyJet announced this Thursday that it posted a net loss of £307m (about €349m) in the first half of its financial year (through March 31st) but managed to cut it.
The carrier says it has managed to cut losses by 29.4% through growth at some airports and cost control.
The company said in a statement sent to the London Stock Exchange that these losses are lower than recorded in the same period, when they reached 431 million pounds (495 million euros).
Losses before tax were £415m (€477m), down 25.4% from the same six months of the prior period.
The carrier also indicated that operating losses reached £396m (€455m), down 20.6% from the previous period.
The airline emphasizes that it is seeing an improvement in financial performance thanks to measures taken 18 months ago, focusing on the most profitable routes due to demand.
EasyJet is forecasting an £80m (€92m) profit in leisure (aircraft and hotel).
In the first half of the financial year, the airline carried 33.1 million passengers, up 41% year-on-year, with an occupancy rate of 87.5% compared to 77.3% recorded in the previous period, easyJet said.
easyJet CEO Johan Lundgren said Thursday that strong demand for flights and vacations means the company is “going into summer with confidence.”
