Order of Certified Public Accountants (OCC) chairman Paula Franco said on Monday she believes there is “everything to successfully complete” negotiations with the government, which are still ongoing, on a proposal to change the profession’s charter.
“We will have everything to get to a good port,” Paula Franco said in a statement to Luce after meeting with government officials.
The President stressed that negotiations on a proposal to amend the profession’s bylaws, which would remove the exclusive powers of the OCC, are “underway and will continue”, explaining that she expects a proposal from the government this Monday.
The negotiations “are on the way to realizing that our authority to prepare and sign financial statements cannot be separated from the actual fulfillment of tax obligations even by building the IRC Code,” he said in turn. , in communication with colleagues on the OCC video channel Paula Franco.
“I think we all agree on these principles, which cannot be abandoned and which, if it were true, would encourage more fraud and tax evasion,” he stressed, noting that “things are moving in more an objective direction to match what our profession respects, and so we will wait.”
The Chairman clarified that the OCC is still waiting this Monday for a “new proposal” to see if it is moving towards a “new convergence”.
“We are going to work until Thursday, the day when this situation will be submitted to the Council of Ministers,” he said.
On Friday, Paula Franco accused the government of wanting to end the profession of certified accountants, suggesting that everyone could file tax returns, no longer requiring a certified accountant’s signature on financial statements and tax returns “that have or should be booked.”
