Concerts increase billing in hotels and restaurants in Coimbra

Billing at restaurants and hotels in the Municipality of Coimbra increased by 63% between May 17 and May 21 compared to the weekly average recorded since the beginning of this year, due to major events in the city, according to Reduniq Insights.

A report by UNICRE, the largest national network for accepting national and foreign cards and the brand, concluded that billing in these sectors recorded very impressive growth during the period when Coldplay concerts took place and Queima das Fitas began.

“The data proves that the organization of large events such as Coldplay concerts and Queima das Fitas, one of the most famous academic parties in the country, allows attracting national and foreign clients to these regions of the country,” Thiago Oom emphasized. a spokesperson for Reduniq Insights, quoted in a statement sent this Wednesday to Lusa.

According to the official, “This type of activity, which lasts longer than one day, ends up forcing you to stay in the area, which increases the demand for hotels and restaurants.”

The report also concluded that between May 17 and May 21, the Municipality of Coimbra recorded a 15% increase in transactions and an 8.4% business turnover compared to the same week in 2022.

“Analysing the indicators on an annualized basis, catering recorded a positive trend of 55% with an increase in external and domestic consumption by 113% and 45%, respectively,” the statement said.

According to the report, the hotel industry grew by 48%, with foreign consumption increasing by 84% and domestic consumption by 22%.

Specifically, in the hospitality sector, the average transaction recorded between 17 and 21 May “was 112.9 euros, higher than the values ​​recorded in the same week in 2022 (87.9 euros) and the average since the beginning of the year ( 95.8 euros)”.

“The demand for this and other sectors of activity has led to an increase of 15% in the number of transactions and 8.4% in the turnover of enterprises in the municipality of Coimbra between 17 and 21 May compared to the same week of the previous year. year — with district [de Coimbra] registering a 12% growth over the same period.

The growth can be justified, according to Reduniq, “by an increase in foreign turnover in the country, which amounted to 10.2% of total turnover, which is about 63% higher than last year.”

Compared to the same period last year, invoicing in Spain recorded a very significant growth of 258%.

The British band Coldplay held four concerts in the city of Coimbra on May 17, 18, 20 and 21, which marked the start of the “Music of the Spheres” European tour that filled the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra in those days, over 200,000 people passed through the fence.
