Portugal’s holiday budget is expected to rise by 5% this year to 1,624 euros.

Portugal’s summer holiday budget is expected to rise 5% this year to €1,624, compared to an average of €1,918 for European respondents, up 6% from 2022, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos and Europ Assistance.

Of the surveyed European countries, the budget of Portugal is one of the lowest, slightly higher than the Polish (1153 euros) and Czech (1283 euros).

According to the same survey, among the highest budgets are the Swiss (3477 euros) and the Germans (2363 euros).

Of all the budgets, only the Belgian budget fell by 5% this year, to 2,182 euros.

This online survey, conducted across several countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania, involved 1,000 people in Portugal surveyed between March 20 and April 7.

The results show that in terms of enthusiasm for travel, Southern European countries, including Portugal, report a larger impact of inflation, with 84% of national respondents reporting this phenomenon.

On the other hand, Portuguese travelers were among those who chose their destination more carefully, with 76% avoiding certain destinations. They are also the ones who are most concerned about the financial aspects of travel, the survey highlights.

According to the results, 78% of Portuguese intend to travel in the summer, a percentage point lower than in 2022.

The study also concluded that 47% of the Portuguese surveyed plan to spend a holiday in their country, trailing Spaniards, Italians and French. Of those who go abroad, a significant proportion chooses Spain, France and Italy.
