Nearly four million people watched Portugal’s first game at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Ghana, according to Universal McCann (UM), the “most viewed game” at the moment.
On Thursday, the Portuguese football team beat Ghana 3-2 in Doha in the first game of the 2022 World Cup.
“TVI aired the debut game, which was watched by 3.9 million people in total, with an average audience of 2.3 million and a ‘share’ of 64.5%,” according to UM, the group’s Mediabrands media agency.
To date, he adds, “it was the most watched group stage game, followed by Brazil-Serbia and France-Australia.”
According to Univesal McCann, “TVI’s broadcast of this game was a good bet for the channel, with a share of 22.2%, up 6.8 percentage points from the October average.”
However, the first game of the Kinas team “recorded a smaller audience compared to the debut games of other championships such as Euro 2020 and the 2018 World Cup.”
The game’s broadcast timing “may be a reason for the lower viewership as it took place on a weekday and business hours, the earliest we’ve ever watched,” UM admits.
Analyzing the game minute by minute, “there was an upward trend throughout the broadcast.”
The second half of the game “attracted particular attention from the Portuguese, where five goals were scored at the same time, and the maximum peak of the audience was already close to the final whistle,” he concludes.
