Church Violence Victims Monitoring Group Received 16 Calls for Help in the First Week of Operation

A phone line set up by the VITA group to monitor victims of church sexual abuse received 16 calls for help in its first week of operation, according to data released this Monday.

“Of all the established contacts, there were 16 situations for which face-to-face or online assistance is already planned in order to collect additional information and subsequently send and signal to the judicial authorities and canonical bodies,” the message says. VITA Group statement coordinated by psychologist Rita Agulhas.

On May 22, Grupo VITA opened a telephone line (91 509 0000) to report cases of sexual violence in the context of the Church, receiving “approximately an average of three situations per day”.
