TAP Chief Executive Christine Urmier-Widener announced this Wednesday that the national carrier plans to cancel about 360 flights following an announced crew strike.
🇧🇷[O sindicato] decided to hold a meeting on December 6, two days before the strike. […] Whatever the union decides, and because of the size of the TAP, it will be too late to organize anything properly. That is why we have made the decision to cancel 360 flights on December 8 and 9,” TAP Executive President Christine Urmier-Widener said at a press conference at the airline’s headquarters.
The person in charge said the decision was “not easy” but would allow the company to work with partners to find alternatives for customers who had flights scheduled for strike days.
Asked if she believes the National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC) will call off the strike after the general meeting on the 6th, the official replied that “at the moment” she does not think so.
The shutdown will affect 50,000 passengers and is expected to inflict €8 million in losses on the company.
