According to information available at 7:30 am on the ANA website – Aeroportos de Portugal, five Azores Airlines, TAP, Swiss International and Ryanair (two) flights were canceled for departures and three Ryanair flights (two) and arrivals of Swiss International.
ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal reported on Monday that Madeira Airport has activated a contingency plan due to bad weather in the region.
On Monday, 28 flights were canceled, 12 more departed.
Adverse conditions, especially heavy rain, are expected to continue until today, according to a statement released by ANA, and teams at the terminal have been reinforced to support affected passengers.
The company also adds that food service outlets will operate after hours, as will support services for airlines and various companies.
Also, according to ANA, the InMadeira platform has also been activated to try to guarantee placement, and the company is also working with various partners to guarantee care assistance.
In a note, the company points out that “weather forecast from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) indicates that the storm is intensifying today.
Due to this situation, he urged passengers to try to confirm their trips before traveling to the airport, avoiding unnecessary crowds.
The south coast and mountainous areas of Madeira Island are under a red alert due to the forecast for heavy and incessant rain due to the passage of the Oscar Basin.
The red alert, the most severe of the three, has been issued by IPMA and is valid until 3:00 pm this Tuesday.
