At least four children were stabbed at a playground in France. The aggressor was detained on the spot

At least four children and one adult were injured in a stabbing attack on a playground in the French city of Annecy on Thursday. The attacker, a 31-year-old Syrian refugee, was arrested at the scene.

At the time of the attack, the aggressor shouted: “In the name of Jesus Christ,” the report says. Le Figaro. The prosecutor of the French town assured at a press conference that there was no “terrorist motivation” at the heart of the attack.

The seriously injured children are between 22 months and three years old, according to French police, Reuters quoted.

The local press reported that two children were attacked and an adult was threatened with death. One of the children has British citizenship and the other has Dutch citizenship.

The attacker has legal refugee status in France and is in possession of Swedish identity documents and a Swedish driver’s license, a police spokesman told Reuters.

Some witnesses stated that at least one of the children injured in the attack was in a pram. “He jumped up (to the playground), started screaming, and then went to the strollers, stabbing the kids several times,” the witness said.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirms “several injuries” via a Twitter post and clarifies that the assailant was only arrested “due to very prompt police intervention”.

French President Emmanuel Macron denounces an act of “absolute cowardice” that has made “the nation [francesa] I’m shocked”. “Our thoughts are with them, their families and the emergency services,” he tweeted.
