German footballer Julian Draxler said this Thursday that he failed to show his potential at champions Benfica, the club he played on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, regretting the physical problems he had.
“I have never been able to show what I am capable of. I couldn’t walk, it hurt, and I ended up having to have surgery. I would like to contribute more to the championship and I almost apologize to everyone responsible. It worries me,” the German footballer said in a message posted on social media.
Draxler, 29, was used as an “incarnate” in just 18 games in various competitions in 2022/23, scoring two goals, and the season ended in February after undergoing surgery on his left ankle.
“But what is special about my time in Lisbon is that the club supported me even during the months that were not perfect for me. I think that’s what makes this club special, that’s why we became champions, that’s why this club plays at the top of Europe,” he said, thanking the club.
Before going to Luz to represent PSG, the German international played for Wolfsburg and Schalke 04, his training club where he started his career.
