easyJet canceled two flights from Lisbon on Thursday, one to Madeira and one to Marrakesh, without providing any explanation at the time, citing “air traffic control delays on previous flights” as the reason for today.
The warning was given to Lusa by a passenger on one of the canceled flights from Lisbon to Funchal, who complained of successive delays and that, finally, when the passengers were already on the plane, they were informed that the flight had been cancelled.
The passenger, Patricia Borges, said the crew told them that the flight had been canceled by order of higher authorities because the plane was needed in Lisbon today and that it was not possible to return to Humberto Delgado airport before 01:00.
In a statement to Lusa, easyJet regretted the cancellation of flight EJU6739 from Lisbon to Marrakesh and flight EJU7627 from Lisbon to Madeira.
He explained: “This was due to air traffic control delays on previous flights that caused the crew to reach the maximum number of hours of work regulated by security, and as a result, the delay meant that flights could not operate within the limits set by the Lisbon airport.”
The company emphasized that it does its best to minimize disruptions by directly notifying customers of their options, “including free transfer to an alternative flight, including with other companies, or a refund.”
The passenger, heard by Lusa, said that passengers on both flights filed a complaint at the airport, said that many of these passengers had to spend the night at the airport, and guaranteed that no one from easyJet could be contacted.
“This is such a serious situation that it needs to be condemned because people need to know what can happen to them when they buy an easyJet ticket,”
