The Civil Guard of Pontevedra is investigating three men, aged 38, 45 and 80, who posed as agents of the Spanish authorities to steal jewels in Valence in March. They were insignia of the Spanish police, according to the newspaper La Voz de Galicia.
The two suspects posed as police officers and told the jewelry store owner that some of her artifacts were being sought in Spain. The third man, who accompanied the others, sold the products to the woman.
The owner of the establishment gave four thousand euros for the jewelry, but the Civil Guard admits that the cost could have been higher.
The lady considered the situation suspicious and alerted the Public Security Police (PSP). When they realized the woman had called authorities, the three suspects fled.
Surveillance footage was able to identify the men. Two Spaniards and one – with a criminal record – Venezuelan.
The suspects were identified in Vigo, where they were informed that they were suspected of attempted fraud, forgery of official documents and usurpation of public functions.
