A space dedicated to the history of humanity’s most basic food: bread. The Bread Museum, located on the slopes of the Serra da Estrela, has several themed rooms. Whether it’s the elderly or the youngest, the only certainty is that learning and fun are a perfect match.
Take a step back in memory as you learn about the most versatile foods. With a restaurant where you can enjoy your lunch, even a grocery store that will take you on a journey: through feelings, tastes and memories! This is a museum that houses a huge cultural and documentary heritage related to bread. It provides a journey through the production cycle, from the sowing of various cereals to the final product!
The younger ones… like a journey of discovery where the cycle of bread is explained in a playful and fun way with the help of animated puppets. This journey literally ends with your hands in the dough!
Symbolic historical room
This is a museum whose mission is to collect and preserve history. Moreover, in order to understand the present and predict the future, it is necessary to look into the past…
Sala dos Hermios is a themed space specially designed for little visitors! Where history and legend intersect, where bread passes through our eyes and our hands. Here, children can make their own bread, which, after passing through the oven, allows them to take this magic home.
Take a break and enjoy
Books are available for review at the Library Bar. You can sip your coffee while admiring the magnificent scenery. The grocery store sells museum-produced bread as well as some local produce. The restaurant preserves traditional delicacies.
End time travel
After rolling up your sleeves, getting your hands dirty, learning, experimenting and trying, the journey continues on the museum carousel! The Museum of Bread carousel is a tribute to the childhood memories of each of us: about warm bread coming out of a wood-fired oven, and about the magic that the carousels have never lost… An average of 250 people take in a day, the vast majority through school trips around the country!
