PSP National Director Magina da Silva announced this Thursday afternoon that the North-South axis in Lisbon is planned to be cut off as part of the World Youth Day (WYD) security plan, which, remember, if, from August 2 to 6, Pope Francis presides over it.
The PSP leader explained that this measure is well thought out and is being led by the Secretary General of the Internal Security System, Paulo Viseu Pinheiro.
“The goal is to allow a very large number of buses with pilgrims and other WYD participants to stop and then move to the places of events featured in the program,” explained Magina da Silva.
Speaking on the sidelines of a visit to one of the three buildings purchased to house PSP personnel who will come to reinforce the PSP Lisbon Command based in Olivais, Lisbon, Magina da Silva added that “there will be a total of 2,800 police officers to reinforce the Lisbon Command Headquarters.” “Rounded figures, around 10,000 police officers will be available to provide security for the Journey,” the official concluded.
