Kutxabank’s Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Anton Arriola as Chairman of the entity today, replacing Gregorio Villalabeitia.

Gregorio Villalabeitia has been in charge since the end of 2014, when he took over from Mario Fernández, who was in charge of the bank for six years.

After thanking the directors for their trust, he stressed that he trusts in the “capacity” and “commitment” of the entire team so that Kutxabank has a bright future, “above the difficulties of the current geopolitical situation”. He has also stressed his commitment to establishing the bank in Euskadi.

Anton Arriola (Durango, 1967) has a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Deusto and an MBA from the Luigi Bocconi University, and has a notable career in the field of finance. In this sense, he has held positions of high responsibility at Goldman Sachs and other corporations, and has forged his career in cities such as Milan, New York and London.

In 2019 he became part of the BBK board of trustees, although he has not had a public profile.

Likewise, he is known for having published six books, the last one based on the murder by ETA of José María Ryan, chief engineer of the Lemoiz nuclear power plant.
