A bicycle theft has prevented the Euskaltel-Euskadi and Baloise Trek Lions teams from completing the finals of the Tour of Slovenia and the Tour of Belgium this Sunday.
“Euskaltel-Euskadi was the victim of a car theft with all of his bikes at the Tour of Slovenia, so we cannot start the fifth and final stage,” the Spanish team wrote on Twitter, citing Reuters.
The same fate befell the Belgian team Baloise Trek Lions at the Tour of Belgium. “Yesterday [sábado] during the night we were victims of the theft of bicycles and wheels,” the team said on Instagram.
None of the teams’ cyclists were able to win the overall standings of the Tour of Slovenia or the Tour of Belgium.
Bicycle theft is a common problem for cycling teams and several cases have been reported in previous years.
