Man accused of terrorism who sent letters with explosives to the president of the Spanish government

A 74-year-old man who sent six explosive letters to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Defense Minister Margarita Robles, Instalaza, the U.S. and Ukrainian embassies in Madrid, and the Base Torrejón de Ardoz airline satellite center was charged with terrorism on Tuesday, promotes EFE Agency.

The judge clarifies that while there is no evidence of his belonging to a terrorist group, the actions he is accused of, the context in which they took place (the war in Ukraine), the possibility of devices exploding (as happened at the Ukrainian embassy – where a person was injured) and the goals of their actions show that “the goal of disturbing public order” is “present”.

According to EFE Agency, a search conducted at the man’s home found several cylindrical rods that may correspond to the same type of cylinders found in explosive devices. Precision drill bits similar to those used to make them have also been found.

Other evidence indicates that the various traces of DNA found share the same “genetic profile found on seals and various internal parts of explosive devices.”

An analysis of the stamps stamped on the envelopes showed that the only two points of sale where they could be bought were two tobacco shops in the city of Burgos.

To ensure the presence of the man at a future trial, the judge ordered him to appear weekly in the court nearest to his place of residence, a ban on leaving the country, the seizure of his passport and the obligation to indicate the address at which he can be contacted.
