The National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Administration (ANEPC) warned this Thursday of a high risk of wildfires on the mainland due to rising temperatures and declining air humidity.
Based on information from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), ANEPC states in a statement that “over the next few days, hot and dry weather continues in the northern and central regions, with an emphasis on temperatures of a maximum of around 40º C, as of Friday, in the hinterland of the southern region and in the interior of the Tagus valley, and in the rest of the territory the temperature is above 30º C”.
However, “a gradual decrease in relative humidity in the afternoon, especially in the central and southern regions, with a slight recovery at night” and “wind from the northern quadrant to 25 mph, moving to the east” are expected. east quadrant from Friday – Fair, blowing north from noon on the west coast and highlands, where it will sometimes be up to 40 km / h.
