A partial strike by ticket inspectors and CP workers has been extended until August 6, covering the time Lisbon is hosting World Youth Day, a trade union source told Lusa.
Auditors and cashiers began a partial strike on June 5, which will last until July 5, to challenge the “lack of fairness” in wages in CP — Comboios de Portugal.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, Luis Bravo, President of the Commercial Railroad Carriers Union (SFRCI), said today that the situation has not yet been resolved, that the workers are “dissatisfied”, so on Wednesday they handed over a new notice of strike on payments for the period from July 6 to 6 August.
“From 6 to 10 July we will have a partial strike at the seventh hour of the workers in Cascais. From 12 to 18 July, a strike for overtime throughout the country. “, he pointed out.
According to Luis Bravo, the strike will affect [em agosto] special trains provided by the company for World Youth Day.
“These special trains are usually provided by the company for special events such as concerts, in which case it will affect the Youth Day events, which have 48 special trains scheduled,” he said.
Luis Bravo also said that workers would strike on trains with more than eight cars, explaining that there was a lot of work going on in the stations and there were cases of trains stopping outside the station, causing some user incidents.
Commitment to the strike of CP auditors and ticket agents, which began June 5, was “greater than expected”, according to the union.
“There is already a strike going on in the northern zone today. All workers north of Pombal are on strike for shifts longer than 18 hours. The degree of suppression in the north is enormous. In times of crisis, it is unacceptable that the highest wage is the greatest benefit,” he said.
According to the union leader, the workers are “very dissatisfied” with the situation at the plant.
The union disputes what it says is “absence and equality in the CP” and fears jobs will be called into question. The operator has already come to ensure that this does not happen by negotiating with other unions.
“This hasn’t happened for over 10 years. There were raises, but they were fair. According to CP, the strike, organized by the Sindicato Ferroviário da Revisão Comercial Itinerante (SFRCI) with particular emphasis on ticket offices and CP inspectors, resulted in the suppression of 3,938 trains between June 5, when it began, and Wednesday.
Thus, out of the 19,908 trains planned for this period, 15,970 have been completed, the railway carrier told Lusa.
