Italian authorities said this Sunday that 172 people rescued in the Mediterranean, including 61 minors, have already arrived at the port of Salerno (Naples) after more than a day’s sailing from the disaster area.
According to information provided by Spanish news agency EFE, the rescued included 55 unaccompanied minors, as well as four accompanied children aged between three and ten and two infants who are in good health.
“Many children arrived on this boat. We expect to receive them all in the best possible way within a few days. It is not enough to help them during the disembarkation phase, but we must walk their path in order to guarantee them a better future,” said Paola de Roberto, social policy adviser for the municipality of Salerno, speaking to local media.
