French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced this Thursday that 40,000 police officers will be mobilized to the streets due to the high likelihood of more clashes in the country after the death of a 17-year-old.
“The state must be firm in its response, 40,000 police officers will be mobilized tonight, including 5,000 in the Paris region,” said Darmanin, quoted by the publication. BFMTV.
Nahel, a 17-year-old black boy, was killed by police on Tuesday after being stopped during Operation STOP in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris. The moment was recorded and released.
The case has sparked controversy and sparked popular outrage as there have been several protests and clashes in France over the past two days. At least 150 people were detained during the riots this morning.
