The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) announced this Saturday the suspension of three local accommodation facilities in the Central Region after “serious violations” were found that compromised the “safety of people and goods.”
In a press release sent to Lusa, the ASAE said that the suspension of activities in two residences in the city of Coimbra and one in the city of Leiria occurred as part of an inspection operation carried out in recent weeks. , Specialized brigade of tourist enterprises of the Central-regional detachment.
“During the verification activities, the suspension of the activities of three local accommodation facilities was immediately established, since the identified serious violations posed a threat to the safety of people and goods,” he said.
According to the ASAE, illegal housing was discovered in the city of Leiria, which was not registered as local housing and did not have a license to use it, with 14 users, all of them employees of the company in the region.
“The place was also checked for non-compliance with fire safety regulations, as it does not have any self-protection measures,” he added.
In the city of Coimbra, two local accommodation establishments were found: one with 25 needy users and several victims of domestic violence; and another with 12 users who did not have self-protection measures.
The living quarters lacked a central fire alarm, fire safety systems, and faulty emergency lighting.
There were “unattended fire extinguishers, the absence of signs with evacuation directions and the fire alarm of a concrete mixer to turn on the alarm, the lack of insulation and fire protection”, to which was also added the absence of evacuation of the premises in case of fire.
In the course of the actions taken, which relied on the cooperation of the National Office for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection (ANEPC), three cases of administrative offenses were initiated on the identified offenses.
“ASAE will continue to conduct inspection activities within its competence throughout the country in the interests of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, in order to ensure food safety and consumer health,” he concluded.
