During the first six months of this year, 215 people were rescued during maritime search and rescue operations in the Portuguese mainland and the islands. The information was provided to the Portuguese Navy in a statement sent to the news departments.
“The Navy, through the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centers in Lisbon, Ponta Delgada and the Sub-Center in Funchal, coordinated 210 maritime search and rescue operations, which saved 215 lives in the first six months of the year,” the Navy said. in a statement.
The area with the most rescue operations was Lisbon, where 124 search operations were carried out, in which 160 people were rescued. This is followed by the MRCC area of operations in Ponta Delgada, where 76 actions were coordinated, resulting in 44 lives saved, and Funchal, where ten actions and 11 rescues were carried out.
The Navy emphasized the participation of all actors involved in the operation.
