Xabier Sagredo, president of BBK, chosen ‘CEO of the year’ at the European CEO Awards 2023

The president of BBK, Xabier Sagredo (Portugalete, 1975), has been chosen ‘CEO of the Year’, in the Corporate Sustainability category, in the European CEO Awards 2023organized by the specialized magazine European CEO. These awards, which each year reward leading managers, companies and campaigns in various economic sectors in the European sphere, have valued the implementation and execution of “a new management model fully aligned with the SDGs” by the head of the foundation banking.

As BBK recalled, with this award, the awards organization recognizes the work of managers “who are pushing the envelope to make Europe the prosperous international business center it is today”.

In the case of the president of BBK, the selection jury has valued “the implementation and execution of a sustainable competitiveness strategy fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda”. Likewise, he highlighted “the great international repercussion” of the ‘Bihar: choose tomorrow’ campaign, with which the BBK Foundation launched the “new management model” promoted by Sagredo.

Sagredo has prevailed in its category, Corporate Sustainability, against finalists such as Yvon Chouinard, founder and CEO of the emblematic mountain clothing brand Patagonia; Mads Nipper, CEO of the Danish renewable energy company Orsted, and Velislava Ivanova, Sustainability Director of the professional services multinational Ernst & Young.

In previous editions, the European CEO Awards have honored State executives such as María Dolores Dancausa, CEO of Bankinter, José Luis Blanco, CEO of Nordex-Acciona, or Adolfo Orive, top executive of Treta Pak.
