The man was accused of attacking authority and the Prosecutor’s Office requested 21 months in prison. In a note ELA has announced that it will appeal the ruling since, according to the union, it has been “proven” that there was no type of attack on authority.
a worker of tubacexwhich was arrested during indefinite strike that the squad carried out in 2021, has been sentenced to six months in jail for resistance to authority. The operator, however, has been acquitted of the crime of attack against authority for which the prosecution requested 21 months in prison.
The trial took place on June 15 in Vitoria-Gasteiz. In a note ELA has announced that will appeal the ruling since, according to the union, it has been “proven” that there was no type of attack on authority. Thus, ELA understands that this worker must be acquitted and does not share the sentence that “sees proven” the resistance to arrest.
From his perspective, in this regard, it should be noted that, during the trial, “the contradictions of the agents about what happened and about the accusations against the detainee were evident.”
ELA has also stressed that these judicial processes against workers, and “the attempt to criminalize the workers’ struggle, must cease now.”
Finally, the union has recalled that in the coming months there will be more trials against members of the Tubacex staff who supported the strike; specifically, against a total of six workers.
