The GNR investigation into drug trafficking lasted for about a year. In a mega operation carried out on Wednesday, 17 people were arrested in the municipality of Sant Bras de Alportel, 14 men and 3 women, aged between 19 and 60.
“We are talking about a network that already had a certain dimension, which also operated in neighboring municipalities, hence the high number of arrests,” said António Ramos, GNR public relations officer in Faro.
9,667 doses of heroin, 7,632 doses of cocaine, 2,855 doses of hashish, 258 doses of marijuana, materials used for drug trafficking, 69,381 euros in cash and 6 firearms were seized, among other things. The network has contributed to the growth of insecurity in society, especially among young people. “There are records of incidents both within the group itself and outside it related to aggression,” the military added.
The operation was reinforced by other aspects of the GNR as well as the ASAE. The detainees will be heard by a judge in Faro Court.
