The yellow and green lines of the Lisbon metro are closed until 12:00.

Metropolitano de Lisboa’s yellow and green lines are closed this Saturday morning to complete network expansion work, and will fully reopen “with normal traffic” at 12:00 noon, the company said.

Due to work, the entire yellow line closed at 21:00 on Friday.

“In order to guarantee the completion of integration work on the existing network, it will be necessary to close the entire Yellow Line from 21:00 on July 7 to 00:00 on July 8, as well as the entire Green Line, from 06:30 to 12:00 on July 8, reopening both lines at this time with normal traffic on all its sections of Odivelas / Rato and Telheiras / Cais do Sodré,” said Metropolitano de Lisboa.

Traffic restrictions on both lines began in April due to work to integrate two new viaducts built at Campo Grande with existing ones.

Thus, from 12:00 “Telheiras station (green line) is reopened and it is possible to travel again between Campo Grande and Cidade Universitária stations (yellow line)”, the company said, adding that the section of the yellow line between Odivelas and Rato will again be carried out by trains of six cars.

On the Green Line, the movement of six-car trains was restored on June 12.

The Metropolitano de Lisboa said in a statement that the “temporary closure” of the yellow and green lines in the morning is necessary due to the “technical characteristics of the work to be carried out at different locations on the sites” and that “due to their complexity, it would be it is impossible to maintain blood circulation, even in a conditional way.

Due to the closure of two lines until 12:00, “alternative” road transport in shuttle mode will be available on all routes between Tellheiras/Cais do Sodre and Odivelas/Rato.

It is planned to open in 2024 a new ring line that will connect the Rato station with Cais do Sodre, with a length of more than two kilometers of the network, create a ring ring in the center of Lisbon and interfaces that connect and integrate different modes of transport.

Metropolitano de Lisboa operates daily on four lines: yellow (Rato Odivelas), green (Telleiras-Cais do Sodre), blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolonia) and red (San Sebastian Airport).

The metro usually runs from 06:30 to 01:00.
