A computer problem at the Matricula portal prevented students from registering for Year 5 and drove parents to despair. Many stayed at home this Friday morning, trying to enroll their children, but without success. At stake is the enrollment of about 90,000 students who have until next Monday. “Everything is wrong with education in Portugal, even with enrollment,” said guardian Patricia Martins.
The problems started on the first day of the deadline, Thursday, and on that day the Ministry of Education (MoE) assured the CM that these were “one-off difficulties” that were “being addressed”. This Friday, the DOE has already acknowledged a “problem with the computer” and guaranteed that “the registration deadline will be extended.” The new deadline was not rescheduled because the DOE said it was dependent on “a guarantee from the IT company that the problem will be resolved.” Only after that, “new terms of compensation for the time of the Portal’s inoperability” will be indicated. Later, the Ministry of Energy assured that “the problem has already been resolved,” but did not name new dates.
