A violent car accident that occurred on Saturday at 20:00 on the North Highway (A1), heading from south to north, in the section between Vila Franca de Xira and Carregado, resulted in the death of two people and three injuries.
Those who died, aged 27 and 41, were from Bangladesh. They worked for a company in the Lisbon area and shared a car with three Portuguese colleagues to return home to Vila Franca de Xira. However, at 20:00 on Saturday, the driver, one of the Portuguese, lost control. At kilometer 28 in the south-north direction, between Vila Franca de Xira and Carregado, the car skidded, overturned several times, climbed over the curb and stopped only on the municipal road 1247 in the Vala do Carregado area. The three Portuguese were almost unharmed, but Mohamad Shahinour, 41, and Ibrahim Ahhand, 27, were killed instantly. The bodies were taken to the mortuary of Vila Franca de Xira Hospital for autopsy.
Taslim Rana, leader of the Bangladeshi community in Lisbon, pointed to cm “the great terror that the deaths caused.” “We are going to ask the embassy to cover the cost of moving the bodies. It costs from 3 to 4 thousand euros each. If it doesn’t, the community will raise the money. They both had families,” he said.
