Prime Minister António Costa announced today that he will attend the next game of the national football team at the World Cup in Qatar during the 1/8 finals.
On the way from the swearing-in ceremony of six secretaries of state at the Palacio de Belen, including his new deputy António Mendons Mendez, the prime minister was asked if he was thinking of going to Qatar to watch the game stage.
“Of course, exactly! Hopefully on Tuesday,” António Costa replied without making any further statements to reporters.
Portugal will play on Tuesday only if they finish first in Group H, which will be decided today against South Korea.
On Wednesday, an official source from António Costa’s office told Lusa that the head of government had canceled his trip to Qatar to attend today’s meeting for health reasons, as he was replaced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ana Catarina Méndez, who is in charge of Sports.
