Arza: “There is no need to dramatize, it is very rare that there is no one in the administration to attend in Basque”

The general secretary of UTG Euskadi calls for “serene reflection on linguistic profiles in public administration” and defends as an “exception” measure that people over 45 years of age should not present the profile.

Euskaraz irakurri: Arza: “Ez da dramatizatu behar, bear arraroa da administrazioan euskaraz artatzeko inor ere ez egotea”

The general secretary of UGT EuskadiRaúl Arza, has stated that in the Basque public administration a “significant” number of the workforce has the required linguistic profile, so, in his opinion, “It’s very weird that there is no one to attend in Basque”. “The data should not be dramatized”, he added. As he has revealed, last year there were two complaints in Lanbide of people who could not be attended in one of the official languages of their choice , as established by law.

Arza has referred in these terms, in an interview granted to the “Boulevard” program of Radio Euskadi, to the ruling of a Vitoria-Gasteiz court that allows the admission to the call of the local police job boards of Euskadi to all those applicants who do not have a B2 level of Basque. The Basque Government has already announced an appeal against the decision.

The general secretary of UGT Euskadi bets, in this sense, for “a serene reflection on linguistic profiles in the public administration”, especially when there are currently consolidation processes and “there are some workers who may lose their jobs, after 15-20 years, for the mere fact of not having a profile”.

He considers that this question has an “expiration date” because nowadays most people finish their studies with a B2 or even a c1 linguistic profile. In contrast, in the past, “thousands and thousands of workers did not have the opportunity to study in Basque during formal education.” In this regard, he defends that a “exception” with those people over 45 years to exempt them from the obligation to present linguistic profiles.
