The annualized consumer price index (CPI) rate of change calculated by INE, rounded to one decimal place, is the same as the latest estimate released on June 30.
According to the Statistical Institute, the reported slowdown is “partly due to the base effect of the fuel price increase confirmed in June 2022.”
In the analyzed month, the core inflation rate (total index excluding unprocessed food and energy) changed by 5.3% against 5.4% in May.
The change in the index for energy products decreased to -18.8% (-15.5% in the previous month), while the index for unprocessed foods slowed to 8.5% compared to 8.9% last month.
In June, the monthly change in the CPI was 0.3% (-0.7% in the previous month and 0.8% in June 2022), and the average change over the past 12 months was 7.8% vs. 8.2% in May .
Portugal’s Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP) showed a year-on-year change of 4.7%, down 0.7 percentage points from the previous month and 0.8 percentage points below Eurostat’s estimate for the eurozone (in May , this difference was 0.7 percentage points).
Excluding unprocessed food and energy products, Portugal’s HICP changed at an annualized rate of 6.9% in June (7.3% in May), higher than the corresponding figure for the eurozone (estimated at 6.8%).
