This Friday afternoon, the President of the Republic will start hearing the mandates of the deputies on the economic, social and political situation in the country and their assessment of the legislative session.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will host the parties at Belém Palace in Lisbon in ascending order of parliamentary representation, starting with Livre at 2:30 pm, followed by PAN at 3:30 pm, Bloco de Esquerda at 4:30 pm and PCP at 5:30 pm.
Hearings will continue on Monday, the remaining parties will be represented in the Assembly of the Republic: Liberal Initiative at 17:00, Chega at 18:00, SDP at 19:00 and PS at 20:00.
On May 25, during a visit to the Lisbon Book Fair, the head of state announced that he would hear from the parties that received parliamentary mandates in July “to sum up the results of the legislative session” and will hear them “on the economic, social situation and politics”, hearings to which he attributed a habitual character, noting that he had not heard from them in “months”.
The President of the Republic added that “later, towards the end of July”, the State Council will meet “on the situation in Portugal”.
Regarding hearings with the parties, he said his intention was to hear them “about everything that is the work of parliament and everything that is an analysis of the political situation.”
At a time when parliamentary work “has already come to an end, and everything that has been the subject of discussion in parliament – laws, commissions of inquiry – all this has come to an end”, can it be carried out outside the “with a noticeable distance” analysis, he considered.
The hearings of the parties will begin exactly the next day after the discussion and voting in the Parliamentary Commission for the Investigation of the Political Guardianship of the TAR leadership of the relevant report and the proposed amendments submitted by the parties.
Regarding the meeting of the Council of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa indicated that it should take place after the debate on the state of the nation in the Assembly of the Republic, which is scheduled for July 20.
