According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), about 70 municipalities in Faro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Portalegre, Santarem, Vila Real and Braganca pose the highest risk of rural fires this Friday.
IPMA has also placed about 50 municipalities in Faro, Beja, Santarem, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Lisbon, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real and Bragança at very high risk.
Other municipalities across the mainland are in high fire danger this Friday.
Over the weekend, the number of areas with maximum danger will decrease.
This risk, as defined by IPMA, has five levels, from reduced to maximum, and the calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the year, 4,406 fires have already affected 9,660 hectares of rural areas.
IPMA predicts cloudy to clear skies for the continent today, periods of rain generally light, in Miño and Littoral Douro from mid-morning, gradually spreading to the central coast, light to moderate winds and lower maximum temperatures.
Minimum temperatures will range from 14 degrees Celsius (in Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Viseu and Leiria) to 23 (in Faro), and maximums from 22 (in Viana do Castelo) to 35 ( in Castelo White).
