According to the carrier, a 24-hour strike by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) workers today resulted in the suppression of 164 trains out of 254 scheduled (64.6%) CPs from 00:00 to 08:00.
IP workers today went on a 24-hour strike to protest the company’s “lack of response” to their demands, with the Court of Arbitration ruling that minimal services must be provided.
In a note sent to Lusa about the impact of this strike on the CP, the company indicates that out of 254 planned trains, 90 passed, and in Lisbon city trains, out of 115 planned, 86 were suppressed.
CP – Comboios de Portugal adds that during this period, 53 transfers were scheduled on Porto urban trains, 28 were banned and seven of the 12 planned transfers were made on long-distance trains.
In a note on its website, CP warned that “due to the strike organized by the trade unions representing IP (Rail Infrastructure Manager) workers, severe disruption to train traffic is expected on a national level today, with possible impact on the days before and after the shutdown period.
The IP strike also affects the Fertagus rail that connects Setúbal with Lisbon, with only 25% of services running.
A carrier source told Lusa on Thursday that minimum services are planned: 39 connections, 18 to the south and 21 to the north, representing 25% of the offer.
According to the regulation defining the minimum services published by the Economic and Social Council (CES), they have been established for CP trains, namely intercity (Alfa Pendular and Intercidades), regional, city trains in Lisbon, Porto and from Coimbra. .
In addition, given that IP operates the rail and road networks, the arbitral tribunal ruled that “safety and traffic conditions must be guaranteed in the tunnels of Marao, Grilo and Benfica”, as well as some means of communication, among other things.
IP workers marked a strike this Friday to protest the “lack of response” to their grievances, according to Abilio Carvalho of the National Union of Railway Workers (SNTSF) in Luce’s June 23 statements.
The leader of the union pointed out that “expectations were created” according to which “the evaluation of the workers will come later”, which did not materialize.
The unions presented a general wage counteroffer demanding a minimum temporary increase of 37 euros, which they announced on 12 June.
