Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was hospitalized this Saturday for dizziness and possible dehydration, but he is in “good condition,” his office said. The politician will be hospitalized for observation, an official government source said.
“Netanyahu was taken to the Sheba Medical Center. He is in good condition and undergoing a medical examination,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement without providing further details.
On the recommendation of a doctor, the chief executive will spend the night at the Sheba Medical Center, Israel’s largest hospital, located in the city of Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv.
The 73-year-old prime minister was rushed to hospital from his home in Caesarea after warning people close to him that he was not feeling well, according to Israeli media reports.
His personal doctor, Zvi Berkowitz, told Channel 12 that the prime minister’s condition was “good and stable.”
The prime minister reportedly passed out at home after hitting his head in a fall, but arrived at the hospital fully conscious and walked unaided, Israeli media reported, citing medical sources.
His son Avner Netanyahu is apparently in the hospital and his wife Sarah Netanyahu is on her way.
In October, Netanyahu was admitted to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem after feeling unwell while praying in a synagogue.
He was released the next morning after he had tests and spent the night under observation.
The leader of the right-wing Likud party, Netanyahu, has been the longest-serving Prime Minister of Israel – 15 years.
Together with her ultra-Orthodox and ultra-nationalist allies, she won the elections last November after serving several terms in office: 1996-1999 and 2009-2021.
Since the start of his second term in 2009, Netanyahu has not formally appointed an interim prime minister.
In the past, when he traveled abroad or underwent brief elective medical interventions, he appointed a close minister to temporarily replace him.
