Expectation and anxiety are the feelings that prevail in the Teixeira family a few days before meeting the pilgrims who will welcome them to their home in Tavira, a week before the World Youth Day.
Decia and Alberto Teixeira and their daughter Carolina, accompanied by their boyfriend, hosted the Lusa agency at their home in the Algarve city and realized that the anxiety is even greater due to the lack of any information about the people who will receive it and who will receive it. spend about a week in the Algarve before heading to Lisbon for World Youth Day (WYD) from August 1st to 6th.
“In principle there will be two people, young people, but we still don’t know their age or nationality, in fact everything will be new,” said Desia Teixeira, assuring that the whole family is “awaiting” weeks of admission to start between 26 and 31 July and “seeking to meet people” to see if they are in good health and if the reception is up to expectations.
However, Decia Teixeira guarantees that no matter who the people are, nationality or culture, the reception will be done with “love, love and care”
“It will be a discovery that will allow us to gain more knowledge, make contact with new cultures, create new connections, new friendships and make our culture known,” he said.
The goal, the husband added, is to “give away what you have and contribute to an event like WYD.”
Alberto Teixeira recalled that the initiative has “participants from all over the world” and needs “people who know and can welcome” visitors before moving to Lisbon to participate in the WYD, which will be attended by Pope Francis.
“We thought we would be good people for this,” daughter Karolina added, emphasizing that this was her first time attending WYD and that the family welcomed the pilgrims “with an open heart.”
Desia Teixeira also said that the pilgrims who will receive guests will sleep in the family home but spend their days in activities already planned in the region.
On the 31st, the pilgrims who stayed in the Algarve the week before WYD will gather to travel together to Lisbon.
“Breakfast will be given, they will take a bath, and then they will be taken to a place where they will meet all the other young people who have come to participate in WYD,” he said.
In previous days, “they already have events planned, they have lunches and dinners, and at night, at a certain time, they will be collected to take them home,” he added.
However, according to Carolina Teixeira, if the hosts choose, they can accompany the pilgrims “all day long” in order to “deepen the connection with these people.”
“In addition to having a home, you need to have the good will to help, greet them, make them feel good and have a peaceful week in which everything is going well,” said Decia Teixeira, who wanted to contribute to the WYD , despite the fact that he subsequently did not go to Lisbon for work reasons.
