Human bones found on the coast of San Miguel in the Azores.

The Maritime Police of Ponta Delgada in the Azores found “human bones” off the coast of the parish of Relva, where John Paul II Airport is located, on the island of Sao Miguel, but whose origin is still unknown, it was announced this Sunday.

In a statement sent to Lusa’s agency, the National Maritime Authority said the bones were discovered by a popular man on Saturday afternoon, who alerted Ponta Delgada’s local maritime police command.

However, despite the steps taken, the bones were found only this Sunday.

“Due to sea conditions and poor visibility, no human bones could be found at this site,” the same statement said, adding that the search was resumed this morning, culminating in the discovery of human bones. which are believed to belong to the same person along the coastline.

According to the National Maritime Authority, “death was pronounced on the spot” by the Ponta Delgada health delegate, and the bones were later taken by Ponta Delgada volunteer firefighters to the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

The case will now be investigated by the Ponta Delgada Maritime Police Command.
