An 82-year-old woman who was admitted to the red ward (high risk) of the Francisco da Silva Teles Municipal Hospital in Iraja, in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, died early this Sunday due to lack of care. because the only doctor in this hospital ward dominated the floor and was beaten up by two people, a father and a daughter, who demanded to be called first.
Despite the pleas of the nurse, who realized that the elderly woman had a cardiac arrest and needed urgent treatment in order not to die, Andre Luis Nascimento Soares and his daughter Samara Kiffini Nascimento Soares continued to keep the doctor in suspense. the floor of the room and attacked her with his hands and feet.
The elderly woman could not stand it and died, and the fury of the father and daughter seemed to have no end. In addition to doctor Sandra Lucia, who was seriously injured and had to have several stitches in her mouth, nurses and other members of the hospital department were also injured, even with chairs.
Before the arrival of the police, and, according to witnesses, they had to call several times and wait a long time until the police car finally appeared, Andre Luis and Samara destroyed medical equipment, furniture, doors and everything they found in front of them. , as stated in the protocols made later at the police station.
When the confusion began, the people who expected to be seen ran as best they could to the streets, and even the hospital workers, fearing for their lives, hid where they could, as the fury of the father and daughter was frightening and they were meant to be armed.
Only one nurse came to help the doctor immobilized on the floor, but with great difficulty he pulled her out of the hands of the attackers.
Sandra Lucia was the only doctor present at the hospital at the time, as the other doctor who was supposed to share her shift was not present. Dividing everything in her power to care for both the patients hospitalized on the four floors of the Iraha Hospital and those who continued to come to the emergency room, the doctor and her team set a priority criterion based on the severity of the cases.
This was when Andre Luis, who had a small cut on one of the fingers of his left hand, arrived at the hospital with Samara and was furious that he was not treated immediately.
The man and his daughter were arrested, and Inspector Jovan Omena did not respond to the arguments of two individuals and lawyers that the whole thing was a mistake and a moment of nervousness.
André Luis and Samara are accused of attempted murder, as they were informed of the seriousness of the elderly woman’s condition and did not allow her to be examined first. The indictment also includes bodily harm, contempt of court and property damage.
“They caused havoc in the hospital, they destroyed the whole hospital. Other patients and medical staff were in despair. We had a patient who died as a result of their behavior (André Luis and Samara). They invaded the red room, they knew that there was a patient in serious condition, and they didn’t care,” said Jovan Omena, unable to hide his outrage at the violence between father and daughter in the hospital environment.
