The reading of the decision in the Lucas Miranda murder case this Wednesday was delayed due to a strike by court officials.
As a reminder, two young people aged 17 and 18 were charged by the State Ministry of Setúbal with the crimes of qualified murder and desecration of the corpse of another young man who died in October 2020 after escaping from the reception center where he was institutionalized along with the murderers.
According to the indictment, the defendants are responsible for the death of the victim (who died at the age of only 15, due to strangulation from behind by two accused, who subsequently hung the body from a tree), as well as for concealing the body. The remains of Lucas Miranda, the victim, were found five months after his death at the bottom of a dry well on the outskirts of Setúbal.
Prosecutors also charged the two defendants with aggravated endangerment, cruelty to a pet, and violation of simple physical integrity.
During the trial, two young men, who were 16 at the time of the crime, claimed to have strangled the victim to death out of compassion and at her request. In their final submissions, the defense stated that the defendants should be tried under a special juvenile regime, which prosecutors ruled out due to the extreme gravity of the crime. The reading of the verdict, which was scheduled for this Wednesday, was postponed due to a strike by court officials.
