A study carried out by The Adecco Group Institute summarizes what changes wages and purchasing power have had in 2022 in the Basque Country, classifying it by sector and with a perspective on previous years.
The average salary in the Basque Country during 2022 was 2,099 euros per month, that is, 2.4% more than last year, according to the IX Monitor study by The Adecco Group Institute. This figure has reached a new historical maximum, and has positioned itself in the second place in terms of highest salary in the entire state autonomous community.
Regarding the economic sectors, industry continues to be the one that offers the highest remunerations in the Basque Country with 2,596 euros per month. Compared to the average Basque salary, it represents a superiority of 397 euros per month, 4765 euros per year.
In second place is the Construction sector with a monthly salary of 2,121 euros, which is still higher than the average salary of the CAV. It has managed to be the highest figure in the history of the sector in Euskadi.
Finally, the Services sector achieves an average remuneration of 1,990 euros. It is the only sector that falls below the average Basque salary, although it has also set a record for the sector in Euskadi.
Compared with the rest of the autonomous communities, Construction reaches first place, while Industry and Services obtain a respective second place.
However, the purchasing power has fallen by 5.3%, 1.3 points higher than that of the Spanish group. The rise in prices in the Basque Country in 2022 was 8%, and this rise meant a decline in purchasing power compared to the previous year.
If we compare this data with the Basque history, the accumulated loss since 2017 is 4.7%, while that of the Spanish group is 2.5%. Transferring it to numbers, this loss is equivalent to 95 euros per month in Euskadi, compared to 44 euros less than in Spain as a whole. Among the autonomous communities, in order from least to most affected, the Basque Country is in eighth place.
If analyzed by sector, Construction loses 2.9% in purchasing power, Service 3.5% and Industry 6.5%.
The Industry sector is the one that has obtained the most loss since 2017; 0.2 points more than the national average. The Construction sector is 1.5 percentage points below the national average (-4.4%).
