Unemployment, registered in June, fell 2.8% from the previous month and fell 1.7% from the same month last year, hitting its lowest level for the month, according to IEFP data released this Thursday.
“Unemployment registered in June fell again to its lowest ever (277,742 people) in June, with a decrease of -2.8% (-8,113 people) compared to the previous month and -1.7% below the level observed in June. 2022 (-4,711 people),” the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Protection of the Population said in a statement, citing data from the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).
In terms of long-term unemployment, the downward trend continued with a chain decline of -1.9% (-2,139 people), remaining -18.8% below the level recorded in June 2022 (-25,842 people).
For the fifth consecutive month that unemployment fell, the number of unemployed young people registered with the IEFP also fell again, with a chain decline of -7.7% (-2,322 young people) from the previous month and a decrease of -0. 3. % (-81 young people) compared to the same month.
In addition, in the period from May to June, registered unemployment consistently decreased in all regions, as well as in all sectors of economic activity, while the agricultural sector recorded a decrease of -1.9%, in the secondary – by -2.5% and tertiary with a decrease of -2.6%.
However, on an annualized basis, the agricultural sector saw a 1.7% increase, a 0.5% increase in the secondary sector, and a -0.1% decrease in the tertiary sector. The number of unemployed couples also recorded a chain decline in June of -1.7% (-79 unemployed couples) and -2% year-on-year.
