One worker died and seven were injured when the roof of a commercial facility under construction in Beira, central Mozambique, collapsed on Thursday, public TVM reported Friday.
“They talk about the problem with the formwork [da obra]that was done badly. Eight workers were injured in the accident and, unfortunately, one of them died,” said Joao Makanga, spokesman for the General Labor Inspectorate in Sofala province, of which Beira is the capital.
The governor of the province of Sofala, Lourenço Bulha, visited the scene of the accident, asking the competent authorities to conduct a more thorough inspection of the work.
“I wanted to draw the attention of everyone, especially those who issue licenses, so that there is a check,” he said.
A group of the General Prosecutor’s Office also went to the site to investigate possible criminal liability after the natural disaster.
