The Revenue and Customs (AT) warned this Saturday about fraudulent emails being sent to some taxpayers about alleged debt payments, emphasizing that they should be ignored and deleted.
“The Tax and Customs Service (CTA) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails purportedly from AT that contain an attachment with the aim of allegedly proceeding with the settlement of the tax situation,” reads a message posted on the Financial Portal.
An example of a body of messages that a taxpayer “experiences” would be “sending a return and tax enforcement process to collect tax debt” and which is recommended to proceed with tax regularization after a “link” is provided and which the tax authorities warn is fraudulent .
“These reports are false and should be ignored. Their goal is to convince the recipient to download malware,” AT warns, emphasizing that “under no circumstances” should the taxpayer “perform this operation.”
