Soldiers filmed an attack on a fleeing suspect in Almada. PNR opened disciplinary process

Republican National Guard (RNG) opened disciplinary process against soldiers who attacked a fleeing suspect early Sunday morning in Monte da Caparica, municipality of Almada. A video showing the intervention was widely shared on social media.

While on patrol, the military learned of gunshots in the area and found a dangerously moving vehicle. They managed to immobilize the car, but the suspect continued to run on foot. A 30-year-old man was detained with a white pistol.

Upon learning of a video circulating on social media showing violent intervention by the military, the GNR, in addition to the internal process it handed over to the guards, also realized that it must report the facts to the General Inspectorate of Internal Affairs.
