According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), more than two dozen municipalities in the north, center and Algarve are at maximum fire risk on Tuesday.
The 24 municipalities in the regions of Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém and Algarve are most at risk.
About a hundred municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Lisbon, Santarém, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Bragança and Vila Real are at very high risk.
IPMA has also placed almost the entire Alentejo region and dozens of municipalities scattered across the districts of Lisbon, Leiria, Santarém, Coimbra, Viseu, Aveiro, Porto, Braga and Vila Real at high risk.
This fire risk, as defined by IPMA, has five levels, from minimum to maximum, and calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the year, 4,840 fires have already affected at least 10,000 hectares of rural areas.
For today, IPMA predicts a slight drop in the minimum temperature and a slight increase in the maximum in the northern region and in the center.
The sky will be partly cloudy or clear, with morning cloudiness in some places in the north and in the center, in some places strong winds will blow with gusts in the coastal strip and in the highlands.
In terms of temperature, the minimum temperature will range from 10ºC (Braganca) to 17ºC (Faro, Setúbal and Lisbon) and the maximum temperature will range from 23ºC (Sagres, Aveiro and Viana do Castelo) to 33ºC (Faro and Castelo Branco).
