On the week of World Youth Day, thermometers take off. Know what to expect from the weather

August, for most Portuguese, the month they choose for their holidays, begins with sunny days and heat, according to forecasts from the Portuguese Sea and Atmospheric Institute. Most of the area is expected to experience temperatures above 30 degrees.

The good weather forecast for the last week of this month thus extends to early August, a period when over a million believers are expected in Lisbon for World Youth Day. During the Catholic meeting chaired by Pope Francis, 27 degrees are expected on Tuesday (August 1) and 29 degrees on Wednesday (August 2). On days 3, 4, 5 and 6 the temperature should be 30 degrees, with clear skies.

August also starts with a heat wave in most of the area, favorable conditions for thousands of bathers to enjoy the summer on the beach. In the Algarve, the main holiday destination, the indication is 20 degrees of sea water temperature in Sotavento and no waves. On the first day of August, 34 degrees Celsius is expected in Faro and tropical nights are expected with temperatures above 20 degrees. On the same day, Evora should become the hottest capital of the district with a temperature of 35 degrees. For Lisbon, the indication is 27 degrees.
