German judge Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, a former deputy of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, who was among 25 arrested this Wednesday in a major anti-terrorism operation, has resigned from her post.
The German newspaper Die Welt reports that Malsack-Winkemann, who was still a judge in the Berlin district court, was arrested this Wednesday on suspicion of involvement in planning a terrorist attack against the Reichstag, the German parliament decided to resign.
Also among those arrested are a 71-year-old member of a small German noble family who calls himself “prince” and a 69-year-old former paratrooper commander. They are named as two leaders of an ultra-right group that sought to overthrow the German state through an armed coup.
