Bad weather and heavy rainfall caused damage in the Greater Lisbon area on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.
In Lisbon, 360 infections were reported between 21:00 and 08:00, 55 of which are still active as of 08:00 this Thursday.
These were mostly floods (186 in the private sector and 97 in the public sector).
The parishes of Benfica, Alvalade and Lumiar suffered the most.
The activity peaked at 00:00 this Thursday. The situation began to stabilize around 3:30 am.
Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon was flooded due to heavy rains. According to adviser Ana Aeroportos, there were “two flights in different directions, but they have already returned to Lisbon.” The airport continues to operate.
In Lisbon, there were people who even took shelter on the roofs of cars to escape the flood.
In El Corte Inglés shopping center, part of the suspended ceiling collapsed due to heavy rain. As a result, water got in due to a burst pipe.
An INEM medical ambulance was surrounded by flooding on Wednesday evening in Lisbon. The rescue vehicle was taken by surprise around 10:30 p.m. on Avenida Gago Coutinho as it was moving to emergency services.
