Over 14,800 domestic violence complaints and 12 homicides in the first half of the year

According to data released this Wednesday, more than 14,800 domestic violence complaints were registered in the first half of this year, slightly more than the same period in 2022, which saw 12 homicides in this context.

According to the Domestic Violence Portal, available from the Commission on Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), 12 domestic violence homicides were committed between January and June, down five from the same period last year.

Of the 12 dead, 10 were women, one child and one man.

The data shows that PSP and GNR registered 14,863 domestic violence complaints in the first six months of the year, up 490 from the same period in 2022.

The portal, which quarterly publishes statistics on crimes and intentional homicides in the context of domestic violence, also indicates that 1,310 people were detained for this crime in June, 324 of which were in pre-trial detention, and 986 in a pre-trial detention center.

According to the data, at the end of June, 1,159 defendants used coercive measures on the grounds of domestic violence, of which 892 used electronic surveillance, which is 103 more than in the same period in 2022.

At the end of the first semester, a total of 2,438 people were enrolled in offender programs, 189 of whom were in prison and 2,249 in the community.

According to the CIG, up to June, 234 victims have been delivered and 4,836 teleassistance protection measures have been applied for the crime of domestic violence.

The data also shows that 740 women, 693 children and 17 men out of a total of 1,459 people were admitted to the National Domestic Violence Support Network.
